Description

Performance Training for Adolescent Athletes offers guidance on programming for adolescent athletes. Topics address growth-related changes, such as managing the impact of rapid growth spurts on coordination and mobility, and balancing training intensity with the unique recovery needs of middle and high school athletes. You’ll learn how to develop trust with adolescent athletes and explain how training sessions with them should start and end. You’ll also get advice on how to successfully build motor vocabulary, resulting in enhanced muscle control and stability.

Learning objectives

  • Describe three actions that you can perform to build rapport and trust with your athletes throughout the training session.
  • List the five points of success when building a motor vocabulary with an adolescent athlete.
  • Name the three components of an active dynamic warm-up and explain the purpose of each.
  • Describe the two approaches to motor skill development.
