Description

Addressing the Current Challenges for Athletes With Type 1 Diabetes, discusses topics relevant to athletes with type 1 diabetes including its athletic implications, balancing exercise blood glucose levels, low-carb eating, using diabetes technology and automated insulin delivery systems, the impact of current diabetes medications on physical activity, and more. You’ll become more aware of how the disease impacts athletes physiologically and better understand safe ways to enhance athletic performance of those athletes with type 1 diabetes.

About the Presenter

  • Sheri R. Colberg

    Sheri R. Colberg, PhD, FACSM, is a professor emerita of exercise science from Old Dominion University and an internationally recognized authority on diabetes and exercise. She is the author of 13 books, including Aging Well With Diabetes, The Athlete’s Guide to Diabetes, and Diabetes & Keeping Fit for Dummies. In addition, she has authored 39 book chapters and over 450 articles, including the latest American Diabetes Association and American College of Sports Medicine position statements on physical activity and diabetes. She was honored with the American Diabetes Association’s Outstanding Educator in Diabetes Award in 2016.
